Agri-Business Incubation Trust (AgBIT)
The Agri-Business Incubation Trust (AgBIT) is a public-private partnership that has established Zambia’s first agribusiness incubator, with the overall goal of commercializing the local agribusiness industry and increasing its competitiveness. AgBIT is fostering business innovations and incubating growth-oriented ventures in the sector. The AgBIT partnership is composed of Frontier Development Associates (the Lead Institution), Mulungushi University (MU), the University of Zambia (UNZA), the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI), the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR), Natural Resources Development College (NRDC) and Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre (KATC).
AgBIT’s key partners include international and pan-African institutions, including the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) based in Accra, Ghana; the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) based in Hyderabad, India; the African Network for Agriculture, Agroforestry and Natural Resources Education (ANAFE) based in Nairobi, Kenya; and the Pan African Agribusiness Consortium (PanAAC) also headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Initial funding for AgBIT has been provided by the Danish International Development Agency (Danida) through the UniBRAIN program.
